Professor Eric Hemsley Moody BA ( Sunderland,1st.Class Hons.) ; ATC (London);MA (Goldsmiths) ; PhD (London, City); FRSA;ARBS;AICA.

1946 Born Sedgefield, Co. Durham. Raised in post-war austerity North Yorkshire and Co.Durham.
1953 Won Coronation Prize for Writing and Art .
1957-68 Part-time assistant to father, a monumental sculptor.
1963-64 Sunderland University (College of Art and Design), Foundation and study visit to USA and Canada.
1964-68 Sunderland University (College of Art and Design), BA 1st Class Hons., Fine Art ( majored in Sculpture and Print-making).
1967-68 University of London, Institute of Education, Art Teachers Certificate.
1968-70 London, various part-time teaching posts and art projects combining dance and sculpture including presentations to Ballet Rambert.

1970-73 Director of Art and Design, Soham Community College and REAL(art) Retail, Cambridge.
1974-75 Seconded from Cambridgeshire Education Authority to study Aesthetics, Psychology and Sociology of Art with a related study visit to the USA and Canada.

1976-77 Director of Art and Design Nonington College, Canterbury.
1977-78 South East Arts Visual Arts Award.
1977-79 Visiting Tutor in Sculpture, Sittingbourne and Eversley College, Kent.
1978-80 University of London, Goldsmiths’ College, MA Fine Art.
1978-85 Visual Arts Co-ordinator, Department of Arts Policy and Management, City University, London. Gallery Director, City University Centre for Arts and Co-Director Arts Council Visual Arts Management Programmes.

1978 Greater London Arts Association Exhibition Award.
1987 Elected member of the London Group.
1987-89 Eastern Arts,Visual Arts Panel member.
1988-90 Doctoral thesis, “The Art Market and the State.”
1989 Solo UK delegate- International Conference on Cultural Management for China held in Hong Kong and China. Appointed Honorary Visiting Professor, Shanghai University, PRC.
1990 Elected member of the International Association of Art Critics.
1991 Elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
1993-4 Appointed Client Assessor Arts Council.
1994 Appointed Reader and Head of the Department of Arts Policy and Management at City University,London.
1995 Elected Associate of the Royal Society of British Sculptors.
1995-96 Appointed External Examiner in Art and Society programmes at Middlesex University.
1996 Co- Director of City University Research Project, “Art in Public Places” and Trustee of Art and Society while at City University, Barbican.

1997-99 Validation Panel member for the Museum Training Institute.
2000-06 Received a Personal Chair as Professor of Arts Policy and Management at City University. As Head of Department, responsible for the academic direction and development of a world renowned post-graduate department based in the Barbican Centre he directed a team which achieved a 24/25 in Subject Review and 5 (excellent and international) in Research. Extensive academic related travel in Asia, Europe and Scandinavia in this period.

2006 Retired from Head of Department and continued with part-time research supervision and some teaching. Appointed External Examiner at Sotheby’s Institute, London and Greenwich University.

2007- 11 Full-time artist working in London and Norwich having recovered from major heart surgery and a stroke in late 2006.

Dr. Eric Moody is an artist/scholar who draws on his English regional up-bringing, the son of a monumental sculptor, with an English, Scottish and Irish heritage, who operates with an international perspective having travelled and lectured throughout the world. His art work may be found in public and private collections in the UK and abroad.
